Sacramento, CA -- Sacramento Councilmember Kevin McCarty, area kids, and players from the Sacramento Junior Giants gathered at Matt Cain Junior Giants Field yesterday to celebrate and honor the perfect game pitched by SF Giant Matt Cain on Wednesday night. Cain’s perfect game was the 1st in SF Giants 130-year history, and only the 22nd in baseball history.
Neighborhood kids and Junior Giants players displayed posters congratulating Matt Cain and the Giants in front of the sign designating Matt Cain Junior Giants Field and a new sign dedicated to Cain to commemorate his perfect game. The pictures taken and congratulatory wishes from the event are being sent directly to Matt Cain.
In 2010, Matt Cain, his wife Chelsea Cain, and SF Giants management christened Matt Cain Junior Giants Field at George Sim Park in Southeast Sacramento. The $500,000 field rehabilitation was part of the Peter A. Magowan Fields for Kids program.
