The board for the Capital Film Arts Alliance (CFAA) -- a professional nonprofit dedicated to advancing the film and video production in the Sacramento Valley region -- voted to offer a one-year free membership to veterans and active military, including California National Guard members and Reservists, who have served in the military any time after 2000. The film-based nonprofit decided to provide this offer to assist the men and women who have given so much of their lives in service to our country during our nation's conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Returning to civilian life after serving our country in the military and finding non-military employment and a community outside the service can be daunting, especially for those who have served multiple tours or are having trouble translating military talents into civilian jobs," said Mary Beth Barber, CFAA Board Member. "The Capital Film Arts Alliance hopes these dedicated men and women will utilize our services and networking capabilities to possibly explore a potential career in film, video and related fields, or just find a community of like-minded individuals who enjoy the art of film and filmmaking."

Capital Film Arts Alliance members get free access to monthly workshops, monthly script-readings and other CFAA events where members can network with others and seek for part-time, full-time or career-advancing opportunities as film or lighting crew, cast, producers, directors, etc. Monthly meetings are held every third Tuesday at The Art Institute (2850 Gateway Oaks Drive, Sacramento, 95833) in the Natomas area of Sacramento, at 7:00 pm. Veterans and active military are invited to come and meet CFAA members, subscribe to the weekly CFAA eNewletter that posts upcoming opportunities, and get involved in film in the Sacramento region.

Regular annual memberships in the Capital Film Arts Alliance are $35 for individuals, $100 for businesses, and $15 for students. Corporate sponsorships also available – contact the CFAA for details. LOVE to see organizations giving back to those who serve(d) our country. Kudos to CFAA and hopefully this will inspire other organizations to follow suit.
