Six protestors were arrested, including the Sacramento Central Labor Council’s Bill Camp and Lino Pedres, vice president of SEIU United Service Workers West, during a rally calling for better "worker's rights" at the intersection of 3rd and Capitol Mall Blvd.

More than 250 workers called for fair treatment, no more wage cutting, increased workloads and no more benefit cuts.

This protest was not to redress grievances against the government, so they really had no place stopping traffic on a public street to get their point across. Don't like the job, the pay, or the benefits? Then quit that job, or protest the government's use of the immigration system at the behest of employers to keep your bargaining chip at bay.

I have to commend them for standing up for what they believe but my normal 5 minute route to my house took 40 minutes yesterday when I was diverted out to Raley Field over the Tower Bridge to allow them to protest. Frustrating is an understatement!

and by the way Kati, I was running home to grab my phone charger real quick and with a dead phone I had no way to contact anyone about covering the protest.

Should have known Kati Garner, woman about town, would be there! You are unstoppable.

Considering that state parks are slated for closure and school years are being shortened, why should taxpayers be burdened with paying janitors $11/hr plus benefits for a job that can be filled at minimum wage and no benefits?

I too am all for standing up for one's beliefs, except for when those beliefs amount to taxpayer extortion.

Because they're already under contract?

Actually, their contract expired a month ago.

So they hold a PR rally hoping that public opinion will somehow convince their employers to continue to pay them above market rates.

Here is a chance for some of you underemployed attorneys to makes some money. Start a class action lawsuit against the union (the deep pocket) and the arrested strikers. The aggrieved class would be all the motorists who spent an extra 45+ minutes in traffic.

"Red Rover, Red Rover, send the truck right over...."

The *only* way to deal with those who block the streets. Run them down.....
