The primary election is right around the corner, and Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and Jonathan Rewers each agreed to sit with The Sacramento Press for interviews, and we are opening the floor to questions from our readers.
This is your chance to ask the candidates about the issues that mean the most to you.
Questions can be submitted via Twitter with the hashtag #SPchat or posted in the conversation below this article. Questions should be brief and direct – and, in the interest of covering new ground, no arena or strong mayor questions, please.
Both interview will be conducted as live Google Hangouts: The mayor's interview occur on Monday from 11 - 11:30 a.m., followed by Rewers' interview at 11:45 a.m. Readers whose questions are selected will be invited to participate.
If you’d like to submit a video question to the mayor, you can either record it yourself and Tweet us the link, or have us record it for you by coming to the Sacramento Press office at 431 I St. on Friday anytime between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. If your question is selected, we’ll show it to the mayor during the interview on Monday.

It appears when people run for office in the city of Sac we need to get personal referrals extensive background checks from others they previously worked professionally with- lol. We already went through several city managers and we'd like to be able to keep one here since they appear to be running for the hils - just kidding. Good luck on your campaign.
By the way, speaking of party--can you tell me why Sacramento Democrats haven't endorsed Johnson for mayor?
I can't speak for why the Sacramento "Democrats" haven't joined Gov. Brown, LG Newsom, AG Harris, Treasurer Lockyer, U.S. Senators Feinstein and Boxer, and Democratic mayors from around the state in supporting our Democratic mayor. The Bee speculated it was because of their opposition to the Mayor's position on education reform and the establishment of a charter school that has raised academic standards.
I have posted my question below. And of course I am not asking you to speculate--after all, you are very involved with the Sacramento Democrats so I figured you might know.
How do you plan to change that attitude toward government so that we can parlay our status as California's capital into more economic activity?
I should note (and you can take this with a grain of salt as I am getting this from our bartender friend who works at one of the lobbyist-favored hotels--so second-hand information) but he tells us that the worse the economy, the more the lobbying. So, to the extent that we're missing out on that (quite lucrative) revenue stream we are losing jobs.
That is, assuming he's right of course.
And that would be great for our economy.
What will you do to revitalize the commercial corridors?
Do you support a permanent moratorium on building in the Natomas Flood Basin?
Do you support an increase of the inclusionary housing ordinance to fund building housing for the low-income and homeless?
In case anyone doesn't remember what I'm talking about, you can see the video for yourself here:

2. Why does it take on average 2 years for a business to get all of its permits from city staffers? Sacramento was recently rated the worst city in America to try and start a business. Would propose city staff have an absolute deadline to complete their review of any project under $5,000,000 in six months. It is unconscionable that Viriakas is still waiting for permits on the Triangle Project after what...five years? The city is just as much a loser as the developers as it is losing the increased tax revenue from the enhanced value of the properties...apparently so city staffers can collect fees. .
