The fourth annual Race for the Ring is coming to Sacramento on July 14, 2012. This text messaged based treasure hunt on bike through downtown Sacramento directly benefits programs at Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS). Teams of two will pedal, scoot and wheel their way through downtown Sacramento guided by text message clues in search of more than $10,000 in prizes.
Each week leading up to the event, we will interview someone who is involved in the race to find out why they are racing for a reason.
Today's interview is with Jeffrey Thorne, an active single father of a 12- and 16-year-old, who he calls "great kids." In his free time Jeffrey runs, bikes, kayaks and hikes and says that he has more energy than he knows what to do with!
The Sacramento Press: Racers will be racing around town in search of jewelry graciously donated by Rogers Jewelry Company. What is your favorite piece of jewelry?
Jeffrey Thorne: Easy one; the Triton Tungsten and Silver Band or any of the Tungston men’s rings.
SP: What are you looking forward to the most about this year's event?
JT: This year I must get more answers correct than last year! Some of the questions are 100 percent challenging (a.k.a. difficult).
SP: What motivates you to be part of this cause?
JT: I’ve been running November’s Run To Feed the Hungry for the last few years and I love having another fun way to help the community.
SP: If you participated last year, what was your favorite thing about the race?
JT: OMG… the event itself and food at the end! This is one of the best supported events in all of Northern California. Great fun. Great place to start and finish. Great vibe.
SP: What is your role with Race for the Ring 2012 and/or Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services?
JT: [I'm a] happy contributor to the cause.
SP: What is one thing the public might not (but should) know about Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services?
JT: Women’s Wisdom Art… a great way to open one’s creative side and excellent therapy when in crisis.
SP: Anything else you'd like to add about yourself or the event?
JT: I can’t wait until my son is old enough to do this event with me!
