Today, the Sacramento History Museum announced its participation in Blue Star Museums, a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and more than 1,500 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2012.
“We are proud to participate in the third annual Blue Star Museums program again this year,” said Historic Old Sacramento Foundation Deputy Director Kristina Swanson. “We are happy provide an opportunity for our nation’s service members and their families to connect with our national treasures. It is our way of giving back to military families who sacrifice so much.”
This year, more than 1,500 (and counting) museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa are taking part in the initiative, including more than 300 new museums this year. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members and up to five immediate family members.

While I know there are a lot of great programs that offer discounts and other benefits to military personnel and their families, there is still so much more that can be done for them to show our appreciation!
