There's no use in sugar-coating. Reality hurts.

This is the message of a commencement address given by Chief Justice Tani Gorre Cantil-Sakauye of the Supreme Court of California on Saturday as she painted a dismal outlook of the future, grim with lack of decent paying options for recent graduates of University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

It was the kind of speech where even the most optimistic of parents cringe upon hearing of the lack of jobs available to those armed with newly minted law degrees.

Still, the bleak expectation failed to deter the graduates from pursuing their calling.  Within this class is the mark of resiliency.  Each held their heads high holding on to their dream.  Many walked with their children strutting close to their side.

In all, 308 Juris Doctor degrees and 38 Master in Law degrees were presented to the graduating class of 2012 by Dean Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker on May 12th, a significant day for many to celebrate a lifelong achievement.

Here is photo montage of some the graduates and their families at the commencement ceremonies held at the Memorial Auditorium on 15th and J Street in Sacramento, California.

I remember that day when I graduated from McGeorge 11 years ago. I think of the day fondly as I was surrounded by family and the promise of a legal career. 11 years into that career, and I still love the law and remain thankful of McGeorge for the education they provided. It has been tremendously hard at times, but never has it been impossible. That's the message I have for these grads. Sincerely, Michael Linardi, McGeorge class of 2001.
