About to park I noticed down the sidewalk an empty wheelchair. Too early to go to work, I decided to walk around and photograph.

A year ago late at night, I encountered a man in a wheelchair. I was just getting off work walking to the lot, I noticed him on the corner. I thought to myself how odd, I couldn’t pass without saying hello.

“I’m fine thank you sir.”

“Are you waiting for a ride?”

“No sir, I’m on my way to the shelter, I have dialysis in the morning.”

“I think the shelter is far from here.”

“It’s alright sir. I’ve climbed through jungles more dangerous in ‘Nam.”

I wasn’t sure what to do. I flagged down a cop. He had dialysis in the morning. I wanted to make sure he got where he needed to be.
I’d like to think he made it.

I saw this wheelchair on the sidewalk I had to take a picture. Because the light was good? Because nobody was in it? Or maybe the wheelchair meant something else.

Disclosure: This story is based on my true experience walking to my car from work. A year later I came across a wheelchair that had triggered my memory of that man, I was driving to work and I had my camera. So I took the picture.
