The Give Back 2 Sac Program is an electronic payment system service that emerged in Sacramento because of the areas’ strong sense of community. This is a community driven program, with the goal to improve the quality of life for those in the immediate area. Each local business contributes to the program by providing a small percentage of their revenue from each payment transactions to a local charity of their choice.

The Give Back 2 Sac Program provides an electronic payment system to local businesses and through this system, 20% of the merchant service proceeds are then donated to the local charity of the business’s choice. Even better news is these businesses don’t have to pay anything out of pocket to implement the electronic payment system or pay higher rates than their previous merchant service. Twenty percent of the proceeds that the Give Back 2 Sac Program would have charged for their services are waived and replaced with the merchant agreeing to donate that 20% to the local charity of their choice.

Since this program’s start, there have been several charities join up. The very first one was the “Happy Tails,” then “Sacramento City Animal Shelter,” and the “Sacramento City for the Blind.” So, while it is a fairly new charity driven program, it is making steady progress. Founder, Scott Moore wanted to ensure that the charities benefiting would be local, and as close to the end user as possible. The primary focus of this program goes back to an old school mentality to where, “you can give a man a fish, but if you teach him how to fish, he’ll have sustenance to last a lifetime.” So, this program is geared toward charities that educate people, elevating them in life, not just giving a simple hand out.

Currently the program has merchants that donate around $10 to $30 per month to various charities. The goal of the program, however, is to have over 10 to 15 charities become involved, and have over 1000 merchants participating in the program. Moore states that, “Once the program is fully mature, the proceeds could reach $15,000 to $20,000 per month, all on an automated system.” The charities will always benefit from this program as long as the merchants stay enrolled in the Give Back 2 Sac payment system.
