The Sacramento River Cats dominated Wednesday's game against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Raley Field, winning 8-3 and taking a 2-1 series lead. The River Cats' record for day games this season is now 6-1 and their overall record is 18-9.

The River Cats took the lead in the first inning and never looked back. Jermaine Mitchell scored on an infield play as Brandon Moss was thrown out at first base. Chris Carter scored from second base on a fielding error by Sky Sox third baseman Jordan Pacheco. This was the first of four innings where the River Cats would pick up two runs.

The Sky Sox answered in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Brandon Wood hit a double and then scored when catcher Dallas Tarleton followed with a line drive into center field.

The score remained 2-1 in favor of the River Cats until the bottom of the fourth inning. With two runners on base and no outs on the board, Adam Rosales hit a long ball against the center field wall, giving him an easy double and scoring Josh Donaldson. Brandon Hicks scored later in a wild play that ended with Rosales getting tagged out in a pickle between second and third base.

The fifth inning saw two more runs for the River Cats. After Derek Norris walked, Josh Donaldson slammed a two-out home run over the center field fence. Sky Sox center fielder Hernan Iribarren tried in vain to stop Donaldson's homer from clearing the fence.

The Sky Sox scored one run in the sixth inning but the Cats added some insurance with two more runs in the eighth.

River Cats relief pitcher Andrew Carignan came out of the bullpen at the top of the ninth inning to close out the game. The Sky Sox scored one more run in the ninth, but ran out of chances.

The River Cats and the Sky Sox play their last game in this series on Thursday night at Raley Field.
