Plaza Café Coffee Lounge opened April 2 after numerous construction delays.

The coffee bar at Seventh and K streets fronts St. Rose of Lima Park, and co-owner Omar Tarin said Friday that it is already attracting regulars.

“We have a modern lounge feel, and we have two TVs playing news at all times, and people are already telling us how good our paninis are,” Tarin said.

Cups of coffee, with beans supplied by Vaneli’s, run $1.50, and panini sandwiches average about $7. A range of desserts, fresh fruits, salads and smoothies is also available. Free wireless Internet access is provided as well as many electrical outlets.

The 1,600-square-foot interior seats about 45, and an 800-square-foot patio able to seat another 45 is in the works.

Currently, the coffee bar is open from 7:30 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Tarin said he hopes to push the opening time back to 7 a.m. in the next few weeks.

Their pastrami melt was very good, the potato salad was average. I don't drink coffee, so no opinion. I will definitely be going back.

Hookah is something that is currently being worked out with the city. The hookah that would be offered would be tobacco-free, but there is a potential conflict with the proximity to the park.

Nice place to go kick back and enjoy a great cup of coffee. Has a nice vibe to it. Most employees are smiling and nice. The others look and act bored big time just going through the motions without enjoying having a job.

My massage office is in this building, so it's been great to see this business finally open up!

And their coffee is terrific, the veggie melt is yummy, but it's the fresh squeezed orange juice that steals the show!
