The Sacramento Kings faced off against the San Antonio Spurs in a close game Wednesday night at the Power Balance Pavilion.
The Spurs brought their veteran team against the younger Kings and won their sixth game in a row. The Kings currently have four consecutive losses.
The game started with Jason Thompson going up against Tim Duncan for the tip-off. Duncan won the jump ball, tipping the ball to Danny Green.

After DeMarcus Cousins missed a running jump shot, Duncan answered with a 19-foot jump shot to score the first points of the game.
From this point on, the Spurs did not allow the Kings to take a lead for the entire game.

The game was exciting for the 13,119 fans in attendance as the Spurs won 117-112.
Duncan and Cousins battled underneath the basket for most of the game. Cousins held his ground against the future Hall of Famer, and at the end of the game Cousins had more rebounds (11-8) and more points (25-18) than Duncan.

Manu Ginobili came off the bench to help the Spurs stay focused and scored 20 points to go with five assists. Spurs rookie Kawhi Leonard scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

The Kings outscored the Spurs 27-26 during the second quarter and went to the locker room at half time trailing 53-49.
By this time Tyreke Evans had only attempted four field goals and made three. Evans’ six points at this point was all he scored during the game. The Spurs defense made Evans an ineffective scorer for the night. The talented forward was quiet through most of the game, and without his scoring the Kings will not be able to win.

The Kings received double-digit scoring contributions from starters Thompson, Cousins, Marcus Thornton and Isaiah Thomas and 20 points from the bench. The Spurs had 55 points coming from the bench, including Ginobili’s 20 points.
Thomas started the game and was a sparkplug for the Kings. His energetic contribution created a challenge for the Spurs. Thomas had 12 points at half time and ended with a career-high 28 points.

The game remained close until Tony Parker hit a three-point shot, giving the visitors a 108-98 lead with 2:18 left in the game. The Kings tried to catch up, but the veteran Spur players kept their lead.

During the four-game losing streak, the Kings have been in most of the games but have not mustered enough points at crucial times to win.
“You have to play a perfect game against this team,” coach Keith Smart said. “WThe mistakes you make defensively, they’re going to take advantage. They’ll find the open man, move the basketball and make it work. Any mistake, any lack of coverage or lag time that it takes to get back defensively, they’ll take advantage. They know how to do that. They’re a very seasoned and poised team.”

Smart and Kings fans hope Evans gets his scoring rhythm back as they face the Utah Jazz Friday in Salt Lake City.
