Today's event at the Capitol could've been called "Getting to know your farmer." If it weren't for these hardworking folks doing what they do how would we sustain ourselves?

I have no idea how to milk hundreds of cows everyday nor the desire to clean up their poop.

Do you?

Today was the one-year anniversary of Assembly Concurrent Resolution 42, which called on Californians to "eat local" and "buy California grown" food.

And it asks Specifically for Californians to prepare meals made exclusively with Golden State ingredients one day a week. Willie Brown spoke to the crowd. (Image by: Kati Garner)

Former Assembly Seaker Willie Brown, also the former mayor of San Francisco, joined state Secretary of Agriculture Karen Ross, among others, for a press conference commemorating the resolution and the adoption of similar efforts by California cities and counties.

It drew a large crowd. Some probably had their lunch woeking their way through the exhibits. Chandler Walnuts provided several ways to enhance the walnut-eating experience. I told them at the capitol that "Comfort Coop" is not a humane nor natural way to raise chickens! Chickens are among the most abused animals because they not only are they in cramped cages walking on wire instead being able to naturally scratch on the ground, these cages are stacked up on top of each other in warehouses, where chickens defecate on top of each other, and they don't get to go out in the sun, and there is no fresh air circulation. Many workers is such conditions have to wear breathing apparatuses, that's if the company bothers to issue one to the usually poor immigrants! That is on top of chickens being fed growth hormones and other toxics substances that do not belong for human consumption. Voter prop 2 is not going to protect the chickens, please also consider your health and don't eat animal or animal products all together. I have submitted to you for your discussion the picture of the "coop" versus a picture of a rooster whom was a girls' pet at the event

You want us to eat like concentration camp victims, and you want the Israelis to become concentration camp victims again. I remember you.

I worry about chicken and animal abuse too, but I worry more about hungry children, malnourished students and homeless people with little or nothing to eat. Not to mention Africa, where thousands of children starve to death. We have to have our priorities, and I think hungry people come far above lack of fresh air and sunshine for chickens.
