Allen Wayne Warren announced his candidacy today for Sacramento City Council, District 2, at a large community gathering held at Carol’s Books in Old North Sacramento.

In announcing his run for City Council, Warren was joined by his wife and three children, mother, extended family, and 200 longtime friends and supporters.

In comments to the crowd, Warren declared his intent to tackle some of the problems that have plagued the 2nd Council District for years:

“Despite the good work of so many neighborhood groups and non-profits, and the businesses who have made commitments to these neighborhoods, District 2 still faces many challenges. We are plagued by high unemployment, struggling schools, and a lack of vital city services.

“We are making progress, but we are not there yet.

“From the day I take office, I will work tirelessly to create jobs and more opportunities for District residents; encourage education partnerships to ensure our kids are prepared to fill the jobs of today and tomorrow; and tackle the problems of crime, drugs and gangs with a multi-pronged program that focuses not only on locking up criminals, but addresses the root causes of crime with after-school programs, more jobs, and a focus on support for families.”

Warren grew up in District 2 and has long been active in the business community there. His business, New Faze Development, is located on Del Paso Boulevard in Old North Sacramento, and his extended family and childhood friends are spread throughout the district.

Joining Warren on stage at his announcement – in addition to his mother, wife and three children - were:

• Adrian Perez, Owner, Pop-9 Communications
• Brooke Preston, Owner, The Green Boheme
• Dr. Kadhir Rajagopal, one of only five “California Teachers of the Year” for 2011
• Jim Loehr, Allen’s elementary school basketball coach
• Pastor Ronnie Walton, Jubilaire Evangelistic Ministries

According to Perez, “Allen Wayne Warren embodies the spirit and leadership we need on the City Council. From his work in the community to his commitment toward creating jobs and opportunity, he has my support.”

Would feel a lot better if the picture of his supporters more accurately represented District 2.

In all honesty the central problem with the City Council has been it is made up of neighborhood activists with narrow interests, who despite their honorable intentions never grow beyond them Just as neighborhoods benefit from diversity so would the City Council.

Isn't the city currently suing him for failing to complete construction in Del Paso?

Perhaps the money he is raising for his campaign could be better spent paying back the thousands of dollars he owes to others, including the city?

After looking at his website, I see have absolutely no reason to think he would be a city council representative with narrow interests. The fact that he is from here, is financially invested, and active in the community is refreshing. Simply having an address in the district isn’t enough to truly represent any of the neighborhoods here (as we can see with the current city council member). We should elect someone with real ties and history here.

I would rather spend the $500,000 a year helping poor families with direct dental care rather than fluoridating the city water for everyone. I'm also concerned about the chromium 6 that is also found in our drinking water. I think that its presence may be linked to the fluoridation. Did you know that it is legal for there to be 150 parts per million of toxic waste in the fluoride we get added to our water? Bottom line: are you for or against continued fluoridation of the city's drinking water?

To FutureRob. Stop it with the scare tactics. Fluoride is here...we've debated this,..and parents overwhelmingly want fluoride in the water. Now get on with something positive. http://now.tufts.edu/articles/fluoride-teeth-public-water-supply

Now, on the subject of Allen Warren...really? What has he done but make money off of bad construction projects riding on the coattails of other firms? Construction industry down, so you are figuring out how to make money off of people through holding public office? get a job.

I enjoy the comment "Now get on with something positive" then immediately attacking Mr. Warren. I don't see how a commitment to developing the community is a negative thing to you? Bringing the Urban League building here and building it doesn't scream selfishness like you seem to think it does. I think these posts are completely off base and clearly stem from a lack of understanding and knowledge on the topic. Mr. Warren has committed himself to developing the community and giving back to the city he grew up in. I for one cannot wait to have him representing the district in the City Council. Maybe with him there and Sheedy out we can start to get something back for the district. Blocking the construction of a grocery store and now delaying the vote for gang prevention money is the typical political maneuvering we are used to from a couple of our council members. A real representative would be a treat to have in the council.
