As a political science major, a former intern at one of Washington D.C.'s most influential think tanks, and an all around amateur politico, I was very tempted to go to "The People's Inauguration Party 2011" to see Jerry Brown speak.

I'm tempted to do lots of things.

As a broke fat kid, I actually went to "The People's Ina...

Jerry made his point at this media dog-and-pony show - California will be shopping at Wal-mart instead of Macy's. He'll avoid the common folk because of time restraints and because the peasants soon will be at his chambers with pitchforks and torches. This is no time for back-slapping and shaking hands. California is on the brink of destruction and many will soon be feeling the pain. This silly, little story was actually very entertaining and a respite from the usual Capitol-crowd reports that put us to sleep.

I didn't realize "parsimonious" meant blowing off the hot-dog eating public in order to attend invitation-only events at the Memorial and the Railroad Museum.

Just another typical California politician setting their priorities on union-bosses and party big-wigs ahead of the general public.

Neither do I, and I understand his not having time to stay and speak. I question his decision to leave without even acknowledging the folks in the tent who had been waiting so patiently for him. Without spending an extra second of his precious time, he could have walked out through the front of the tent instead of going back from whence he came. There were several hundred people who had taken two plus hours out of their day to see him, it was the least he could have done. I know our time isn't as valuable as the governors, but it was a classless move on his part.

My guess is that he had a pretty tight schedule that day, running straight from the inauguration at Memorial to the reception at the Railroad Museum, and didn't have much time for chit-chat. Pieces of the governor's time are more in demand than free hot dogs, and his time is pretty limited--I can't blame him for being parsimonious with it. Or for grabbing a free hot dog.

That it was, but it was surprisingly swift moving. The picture of efficiency, which would bode well for the administration had everything else about the event not been such a clustershow.
