Young people celebrate Equality

Approximately 300 people showed up Wednesday night at 21st and K, in the parking lot of McMartin Realty, to celebrate the overturn of Federal Prop 8.
Among those gathered were crowds between the ages of 20-30, and here's what they had to say.
"Decisions are made by those who show up. What was it, 20 years ago, when 50% of the people our age were voting, and now it's down to 25%. So here we are today -- to start making the decisions." -Brittany, 25.
"Hopefully by the time we're ready to get married, Prop 8 will be overturned. But there are people who are ready, so we've come out to support those people because they would do the same for us." -Travis, 24.
"It's our future. And we can have something we didn't, when not having something makes us a second class citizen. So today is a milestone, but this isn't the end of it. It's going to keep going, and we're here to support that." -Angie, 26.
"We're the next wave of voters and everyone should support equality." -Kim, 27.
"It's love we're talking about, give me a break." -Jenny.
"I have two moms, and I would really love for them to be able to get married." -Terra, 20.
"We're here to celebrate. It's surprising but it's wonderful." -Johnathon, 30.
But young people weren't the only ones who showed up to celebrate. This was a crowd of people from all ages and all backgrounds, and all showing up to support equality.
Sacramento City School Board Trustee, Patrick Kennedy, said, "I'm here because I believe in and have always supported equality. Being here is the right thing to do."
When asked why she thought it important to show up with her kids, Cheree, 35, said, "So that they know why we're here, and so hopefully by the time she's ready to get married, it won't matter. But they'll know what it took to get here."
So it was a great day for everyone, but the atmosphere was best summed up by Janit, 21, who said, "It's a beautiful day to be gay."

Decisions are made by the people who show up, and it's significant to note that many of the decisions being made in politics today are made by older generations, but those decisions will have lasting effects for the younger generations. It is important and relevant to continue speak up and vote and SHOW UP for that which is important to you.

love going on there last night and to see such a big crowd of people in just one little parking lot, all affected by the decision in some way, was an unforgettable thing. Glad to have showed up. :)
