Sacramento’s First Annual Chicken Wing Festival to Debut This Weekend
Sacramento will soon be seeing a new food festival, the likes of which is sure to draw a crowd.
The first annual Sactown Wings festival is set to debut this Saturday, Aug. 23 at Fremont Park, from 2pm to 7 pm. The park, located on 16th and P streets, will be host to six local vendors, live music, a wing judging contest, and, of course, plenty of chicken wings.
“I was talking with a friend and the idea of wing fest came up,” said Nick Berruezo, the founder of Sactown Wings. “I had been considering a beer festival, but Sacramento has plenty of beer festivals and other food festivals, but there wasn’t anything like a wing festival.”
The six local vendors include Barwest, Blue Cue, Chicago Fire, Clark’s Corner, Field House American Sports Pub, and Water’z Wing’z. The judging will be limited to 100 VIP Wing Judge ticket-holders who will sample servings from all six vendors and cast ballots for their favorite wings.
Alongside the judging and plethora of chicken wings, there will be live music featuring performances from three local Sacramento bands, The Golden Cadillacs, The Crescent Katz, and Riotmaker. In addition, Berruezo said there will be giant beer pong, giant jenga, bean-bag games, and cheap beer.
The event offers three ticket options that will go up in price starting Aug. 22:
“Event Attendee” ($10) : This gets you through the door and allows you to purchase full priced food and beer during the event.
“Wing Eater” ($30): Including admission, this ticket gets you 15 wings from Chicago Fire, two free beers with a souvenir beer mug, and subsequent $2 refills.
“VIP Wing Judge” ($40): Including admission and the Wing Eater package, this ticket provides a ballot, Sactown Wings Judge t-shirt, and two additional wings from each of the local vendors. This option is limited to the first 100 people who will ultimately decide the winning vendor of the festival.
