Ask The County Law Librarian – Family law help

Q. Hi Law Librarian,

I am contemplating filing for divorce. I have done some research online and the process seems complicated. I have been married for four years and we have a three year old daughter. Is there anywhere I can get some help?

Darryl

A. Hi Darryl,

Unfortunately, the Sacramento Superior Court’s Self Help Center/Family Law Facilitator had to reduce services in July 2012 due to budget cuts. Visit their website to see what services they offer. Also the Court does provide packets of forms with instructions on their website.

The Law Library has just begun a Family Law Pilot Project. We are starting to provide workshops on Dissolution/Legal Separation/Nullity; Income & Expense Declaration & Financial Disclosure; Request for Order; and Default Judgment. We plan on adding additional classes later this month.

Do you have a question for the County Law Librarian? Just email sacpress@saclaw.org. If your question is selected your answer will appear in next Thursday’s column. Even if your question isn’t selected, though, I will still respond within two weeks.
