‘Dark Meets Light’ at Ovation Stage

Ovation Stage’s founding Artistic Director Penny Kline is both playwright and director of the world premiere “Dark Meets Light,” based on the concept of the play "No Exit" by Jean-Paul Sartre.

This is a surreal and existential drama that exhibits the notion that other people can be our hell. The synopsis is that two women and two men are locked up together for eternity in one bleak room in hell. There are no windows, no mirrors, the lights can never be turned off and there is no exit. The irony of this hell is that its torture is not of the rack and fire, but of the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its pretenses by the cruel curiosity of the other damned characters. Here the soul is shorn of secrecy, and even the blackest deeds are mercilessly exposed to the fierce light of hell. It is an eternal torment.

The cast includes Katie Pratt as Dalton the Valet,  Millie Warren as Maxim (Conscience), Laure Olson as Mary Quinn, Brent Dirkson as James Schwartz, Jawara Duncan as Gabrielle Monier,  Alyssa Garcia as Sandra Adams and COSTUMER Claire W. Hurni.

The play is located at Three Penny Theatre, 1723 25th Street, Sacramento, R25 Arts Complex (25th & R Streets). It opens Saturday, April 6 @ 8 pm & Sunday April 7 @ 2 pm. Continues Fridays & Saturdays @ 8 pm, Sundays @ 2 pm through April 28 .
